Automotive News

Most of the investments will be carried out in German factories, especially in electric mobility.

The Volkswagen brand will invest 22,800 million euros in the next five years in its factories around the world, but especially in those of Germany.

Volkswagen today informed that the investments in the German factories will be of 14,000 million Euros, mainly in the electrical mobility, in the production by means of the modular platforms and in the offensive of models.

The CEO of the VW brand, Herbert Diess, said that “the investment package adopted will decisively boost the biggest product and technology offensive in the history of the brand.”

In Germany, Volkswagen wants to transform the Zwickau factory into a series production center for electric vehicles, which are based on the new modular platform for electrics with a range between 400 and 600 kilometers.

In 2020 the main brand of the VW group will launch the new generation of electric, which will include innovations that previously only offered the segment of the high-end and will be launched at the same time in Europe, China and the US.

First 100,000 vehicles will be on the market and by 2025 one million are planned.

The production of the Golf and the Passat in Zwickau will be transferred to Wolgsburg and Emden, where it will invest 2,900 and 1,100 million euros respectively.

The factories of Pamplona (Spain), Palmela (Portugal) and Bratislava (Slovakia) are preparing to produce vehicles with the previous modular platform and those of Mexico, the US, South America and Russia for new roads.

The Volkswagen Group announced last week that it will invest 34,000 million euros from 2018 to 2022 in the development of electric vehicles, autonomous driving systems, new mobility and digitization services.
