The production of the new vehicle at the PSA plant in Vigo, V20, will create 1,500 jobs in the sector in 2020, said the president of the Xunta, Alberto Núñez Feijoo, on Monday. The head of the regional government has visited the headquarters of the PSA Group and its innovation center in Paris, where he met with the president of the company, Carlos Tavares.
At that meeting, the Galician authorities, headed by Núñez Feijoo and the Minister of Economy, Employment and Industry, Francisco Conde, learned about the plans of the French multinational for the Vigo plant, both in new models and investments in innovation, together with the Xunta and the CTAG.
At the end of the meeting, Núñez Feijoo stated that the meeting “met expectations”, with positive news “above expectations, both in employment and in billing to suppliers, component industries and production of automobiles.”
In this line, indicated a production in the regional plant in 2020 “more than half a million vehicles per year”; an increase in turnover to component industries “up to 1 billion euros”; and “more employment, about 1,500 more jobs from 2020”. Nunez Feijóo explained that in addition to the production of vehicles and their effects on employment and auxiliary industry a part of the meeting focused on innovation and investments to be made by the French multinational.
Thus, he highlighted the start-up of mixed units between companies and technology centers, which will mobilize 100 million euros, once the fourth call is resolved.
At present the sector occupies 2,000 workers in Galicia, 12% of industrial employment and invoices 8.300 million euros per year, recalls the Xunta. In addition to the V20 model, for Peugeot, the Vigo plant will start producing K9 vans in the first quarter of 2018, reports Efe.
