Seat president Luca de Meo has presented the brand’s new features for the Frankfurt Motor Show, including the León Cupra R, a limited series of 799 units, which becomes the most powerful model in the history of the manufacturer reaching 310 horses.

De Meo, has also announced Cupra’s independence as Seat’s sporting division. This will be responsible for developing the most powerful versions of the range and competition cars for customer racing. As for example, the Lion Eurocup. In this way, the Cupra R becomes the first model to benefit from this agreement and it would not be unreasonable to see in the near future an Ibiza or Cupa R.

The 310 horses of the Lion Cupra R will only be available with manual gearbox. If we opt for the automatic variant (DSG) the figure remains at 300 horses. This edition maintains the front-wheel drive of the current Cupra, since the total is only available with the ST family variant.

Its bodywork highlights the details in carbon fiber in the front and rear spoilers, the side skirts and the rear diffuser. The other distinguishing element of this series is the copper, present in the front and in the steps of wheel. The same materials have been used in the interior next to the Alcantara, destined to the steering wheel and the knob of the gear lever.

You can choose between three shades: Midnight Black, Gray Pyrenees (both at no cost) and the exclusive Matt Gray (shown in the image). The model has received a specific set up. Adaptive suspension has been redesigned (DCC), there is a new exhaust system and its brakes are Brembo.

The Cupra R will be accompanied by the new Arona, a model that was already presented, but that will make its long start in Frankfurt. In addition, the brand will announce its new partnership with the Amazon Alexa voice service, which will allow, by a simple question, to find the destination, the nearest dealer or a restaurant for dinner, among other functions. At the end of the year it will be integrated in the León and Ateca and in 2018 it will receive Ibiza and Arona.

The names will also be unveiled for the 7-seater todocamino that will arrive next year. Abrera, Alborán, Arán, Aranda, Ávila, Donosti, Tarifa, Tarraco and Teide were selected and, between 12 and 25 September, users will be able to vote for their favorite candidate.

Finally, Seat will introduce the Ibiza 1.0 TGI of CNG (compressed natural gas). After Mii and León, it is the third model in the range that receives this technology and, according to Seat, will offer a range of 1,200 kilometers, 390 of them with CNG.
