Seat invests 23 million in a new ship in Martorell
Automotive NewsThe new painting facilities allow to increase production to 2,400 cars per day
The investment coincides with the 25th anniversary of the factory of the Volkswagen subsidiary
Seat factory in Martorell is anniversary and inauguration. On Thursday, February 22 will be 25 years since its launch shortly after the Volkswagen group took full control of the Spanish brand. At the same time, the plant has just launched a paint ship in which the company has invested 23 million euros that will increase production capacity.
The start of the production of the new SUV (small SUV) by Arona and that of the new generation of the Audi A1, which will replace the manufacturing of the Q3 in Martorell, has motivated a strategic investment for the factory because it solves the problem of a historical bottleneck in the vehicle painting area. The 23 million have served to build a new cabin in which bodies are painted that combine two colors and also to increase the degree of robotization of one of the paint lines of the plant. The trend of two-color cars forces the body to pass twice through the paint booth.
With these new facilities, the maximum production capacity of the Seat factory will increase from 2,300 cars a day to 2,400, according to sources from the company. The forecasts of the brand suggest that the current production, located in 2,300 cars per day equivalent to 95% of maximum capacity, will go up as they begin to produce all planned models, including the Audi A1 from the second semester of the year.
The works of the new ship and the installation of painting robots have lasted several months and ended in mid-January. The new facilities are located in a space next to the assembly workshop five. The investment is part of the 3,300 million announced by the Volkswagen group for Seat in the period 2015-2019.
