Seat converts its Martorell plant into the highest automatic warehouse in Spain
Automotive NewsWith capacity to manage 119,000 boxes of components, the new building of the Seat plant in Martorell has a maximum height of 43.7 meters.
SEAT continues with its commitment to convert the Martorell plant into the benchmark of Industry 4.0 with the construction of a new automated logistics center in which SEAT will store components and which will be equipped with intelligent technology that will allow a fully automatic process. Its total capacity will be 119,000 boxes and will have a maximum height of 43.7 meters, which makes it the highest logistics warehouse in Spain. It is expected that the works of this facility, which will become the pillar of the SEAT Logistics Center of the Martorell plant, will be completed in the last quarter of 2018.
For Dr. Andreas Tostmann, Vice President of Production of SEAT, “the start-up of this new 100% automatic logistics center demonstrates again that SEAT is a reference company in all areas of Industry 4.0”. “With this project, we make a qualitative leap in our service capacity and in our vision of achieving excellence in logistics management, increasing efficiency in the production process of our vehicles,” he added.
The new SEAT warehouse will have a total area of 5,700 m2 and will be divided into two facilities. The first, 43.7 meters high, will move up to 500 containers per hour, will be distributed in seven aisles and will have a capacity of 24,000 containers. The second one, of 21 meters, will have five corridors, will host more than 95,000 boxes and will be able to transfer 1,100 per hour.
This new installation will be a step forward in the logistics processes of the Martorell plant, which in the last months have obtained different recognitions. SEAT recently achieved the 2017 Manufacturing Excellence Award in the Logistics and Management of the Logistics Network category. The jury of this award, considered one of the reference dates of the industrial sector, highlighted the excellent level of the plant in the management of suppliers and in the internal logistics. Likewise, last June, the International Logistics Exhibition of Barcelona awarded SEAT for the efficiency and technological innovation of the SEAT Easy Smart Logistics project.
