In 2017, 159,372 units were sold in the two-wheeler market as a whole – motorcycles and mopeds – almost 7% less than a year earlier due to the change in the European emission regulations and the entry into force of the Euro 4 for motorcycles. , according to the general secretary of Anesdor, José María Riaño, at a press conference.
In his balance sheet last year, he explained that the Euro 4 effect produced an advance in sales and strong market growth at the end of 2016, which caused the fall of last year.
For the current year, it has foreseen “a slight recovery” in sales, of 5.1%, to reach 167,500 units.
By markets, in 2017 motorcycles concentrated 85% (136,652) of the registrations, 11.3% less than in the previous year; while mopeds were the “counterpoint” to grow 31.8% over the previous year, up to 22,720 units sold, said Riaño.
By motorcycle displacement segments, those less than 125 c.c. they decreased by 20%, with 73,148 units registered; while those with high cylinder capacity closed the year positive (1.4% more and 63,504 units).
