VW wants to recover ‘course’ with SUVs

The German automaker will bet on small trucks, a market that so far this year has grown at a rate of 7.5 percent. In addition, they will boost their program of pre-owned cars ‘DasWelt Auto’.

Volkswagen Mexico reported a 2.5 percent reduction in its auto sales volume in the first seven months of 2017. However, the company wants to reverse this situation by betting on SUV trucks for the rest of the year.

Iñaki Nieto, director of the brand in Mexico, stressed that with the new Tiguan and the launch of the Terramont model – towards the end of the year – want to rebound their sales.

“The Mexican market will continue to be Sedan, we have Vento and Jetta to win that market, but in the SUV we will be strengthening our presence,” said the executive.

The bet on the sale of these vehicles happens when demand in the segment of SUV grows at a rate of 7.5 percent so far this year, while that of compact cars and subcompacts has stagnated, show data from the Association Mexicana of Automotive Distributors.

He emphasized that his program of pre-owned cars ‘DasWelt Auto’ will also serve to attract new customers to the brand, who will later become consumers of new vehicles of the same.

“We are investing every year 20 million dollars to improve the network of distributors. We have 127 agencies across the country, we do not see need to open new dealers because we have national coverage, “added Nieto.
