Volvo will only launch electric or hybrid vehicles from 2019Automotive News

The automaker Volvo Cars has announced on Wednesday that from 2019 will only launch electric or hybrid vehicles and bid farewell to the combustion engines. “This announcement marks the end of the car with exclusively combustion engine,” said Volvo president and CEO Hakan Samuelsson.
Thus, in the future there will be no Volvo cars without an electric motor, since cars with pure internal combustion engines will be gradually eliminated and replaced by internal combustion cars that offer electric options. The Swedish firm will make electric cars the center of its future business in response to market demands, it said in a statement.
“People are increasingly demanding electric cars and we want to respond to the current and future needs of our customers,” said Samuelsson. The company will launch five fully electric cars between 2019 and 2021, three of which will be Volvo models and two will be high-performance electric cars from Polestar, Volvo’s arm dedicated to the development of high-performance electric vehicles.
