Toyota will seek to manufacture more cars at its plants in MexicoAutomotive News
· Mexico continues to be in the plans of the automotive industry as main destination of investment
Japan’s Toyota still considers Mexico to manufacture more models in its domestic plants, in addition to the Tacoma pickup, as it considers it a safe place to invest.
Luis Lozano, director of Institutional Relations at the Mexican shipbuilder, said that although they have modified their Corolla production plans for Tacoma at the plant it builds in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico continues to be the main investment destination.
In an interview with Notimex he said: “We always do studies looking for opportunities in the markets where we are located and in all plants we are always going to study what potential models we will include in them”, and the production line in Guanajuato will be flexible enough to “think of new models,” he said.
In that sense, he clarified that Mexico is still in the plans of the automotive industry as the main investment destination and “the news that we have changed the product to Tacoma to satisfy the market of the North American region, added to the agreement of co-investment with Mazda, is a symptom that Toyota continues to trust the country as a safe place for investment. ”
So far, he emphasized, it is only necessary to define the plans for the amount of production of Tacoma pick ups in the Guanajuato plant, but both the investment and the level of estimated jobs continue as planned.
From there, he said, the owner’s sales and production plans remain unchanged for this year. “Our path continues this year as we have presented to the different media. The only thing that remains to be defined is the final capacity of the plant in Guanajuato.”
