Renault has acquired 35% of the joint venture ‘Autonomous Vehicle Simulation’ (AVS), created with Oktal, a subsidiary of French engineering company Sogeclair, the company announced in a statement.
This new joint venture, which will acquire the automotive assets of Oktal, will allow Renault and the Renault-Nissan alliance to develop technologies for the testing of stand-alone vehicles in a virtual environment.
The Renault-Nissan alliance is committed to launching more than 10 vehicles with autonomous vehicle performance in the 2020 horizon.
“This partnership will allow us to accelerate the development of new services and improve the experience of our customers,” said the director of engineering product of Renault, Gaspar Gascón.
In fact, the alliance has already started virtual testing with autonomous vehicles using the SCANeRTM simulation program, invented by Renault and developed in collaboration with Oktal.
From Oktal they affirm that the investment of Renault will allow to increase the development of new functions of SCANeR Studio dedicated to the autonomous and connected vehicle.
