Gestamp strengthens its presence in the United StatesAutomotive News
It opens a factory, its eighth in the country, and a new R & D center.
Gestamp launches its eighth plant in the United States and the number 100 in the world. This will be located in Chattanooga (Tennessee), built from scratch, and will manufacture exterior body parts for the different clients with whom it works in the country. It strengthens its presence in the US, its second largest market, where it has 3,000 workers and where in 2016 it sold 1,153 million euros. In addition, it has another factory under construction located in Michigan.
“The United States is a growing market for Gestamp and we will continue to invest in the region to better support our customers and collaborate in the manufacture of safer and lighter vehicles,” said Gestamp President and CEO Francisco J. Riberas.
Gestamp will also have two new hot stamping lines in Chattanooga, in addition to the more than 75 that the Group has in operation all over the world. Hot stamping contributes to weight reduction of vehicles, while improving their safety in the event of a collision.
In addition, Gestamp has launched a new R & D center in the US, which implies an improvement in capabilities and replaces the company already had in the country. Located in Auburn Hills, Michigan, the center has the highest standards in the industry and is equipped with laboratories to test the different materials with which they work.
