Citroën shows its most Spanish range at the Geneva show

The PSA Group reaffirms its commitment to Spain for the production of vehicles with the new Berlingo and C4 Cactus of Citroën in addition to the Peugeot Rifter or the C3 Aircross
Citroën completely renews its two most important models manufactured in Spain, the Berlingo and the C4 Cactus. Two very important cars for the French brand and for its industrial projection in Spain, both models correspond to very different segments of the market. The C4 Cactus becomes the new compact model of Citroën, while the Berlingo is, since its launch in 1997, the reference in a new vehicle concept that he himself created, the ludospace.

The French group PSA has become the main protagonist of the Spanish automotive industry, of which it was the leader in 2017 with its almost 850,000 vehicles produced in Spain. It has three plants in operation, the one in Vigo where the new Berlingo and the C4 Space Tourer are produced, the one from Figueruelas in which Opel models are manufactured and the recently launched C3 Aircross and Villaverde in Madrid. where the new C4 Cactus is produced and is prepared to produce new models in 2021, after the approval of its industrial plan.

But let’s start with the Berlingo. Until 1996, when the French brand showed this innovative model for the first time, the retail distribution in the cities was done with vehicles based on a compact car but to which the back was removed and in return it was put a kind of drawer of load. It was the C15 of Citroën or its equivalents in the rest of the brands. Cars uncomfortable, unsafe and very hard, designed only for work.

With the arrival of the Berlingo this changed radically since 1997 and soon all the manufacturers had similar vehicles, much more comfortable. Models with which a perfect duality was achieved, with a car well thought out for work during the week but that could be used for a pleasant weekend getaway.

Now comes the third generation of Berlingo, which continues the saga of success of an iconic body that has become the reference of “practicality”, not having stopped innovating at the service of leisure activities and families. The New Berlingo gains in modernity due to its design and its proximity to comfort. Adopts a new morphology and all the stylistic codes of the new Citroën to achieve a more reaffirmed character.

Intelligent, it reinforces its practicality on a day-to-day basis by offering exceptional on-board space and modularity. It incorporates a new platform and is equipped with 19 technologies for driving assistance and 4 connectivity technologies, with latest-generation engines and with a suspension oriented towards comfort. From now on, it is also available in 2 sizes M and XL (5 and 7 seats), and its commercialization will start in the second half of the year after its presentation at the Geneva Motor Show.

The other great Spanish novelty of Citroën is the new C4 Cactus. The French brand has always been characterized by its capacity for innovation throughout its history. A good example is the 2 CV that celebrates now its 70 years or the Mehari, which is half a century old. But also the hydropneumatic suspension, the front-wheel drive vehicle or the spectacular Citroën Tiburón, ahead of its time. When Citroën launched the C4 Cactus a few years ago, it launched a new concept of vehicle, modern and innovative but with a reasonable price, a car with a very striking and different aesthetic, with great possibilities for personalization. This breakthrough car, manufactured in the Madrid plant of Villaverde in a worldwide exclusive, now undergoes a first renovation.

The new C4 Cactus reinterprets its stylistic codes, is somewhat less striking than its predecessor, its “airbumps” located on the doors, a very striking system that in addition to its aesthetic is important for the protection it offers to the body before small crashes newspapers, are now smaller and more discreet. In addition, they are located in the lower part of the doors. They continue to fulfill their mission, but they are less flashy.

The new C4 Cactus, which is also presented at the Geneva Motor Show, represents its new range of ultra-comfortable compact saloons. A profound change for the C4 Cactus that changes its dimension in terms of technologies and engines but at the same time differentiates itself due to its unique character and its special comfort. Its design conserves audacity and modernity, but evolving at the same time towards a higher status.

On board the vehicle, the New C4 Cactus immerses its occupants in a true shell, which provides insulation and security. Benefiting from the Citroën Advanced Comfort program, the New C4 Cactus launches in Europe the suspensions with Progressive Hydraulic Stops, a system that allows a remarkable improvement of the ride comfort and that supposes the equivalent to circulate on a flying carpet.

And if all this were not enough, Citroën opts for the Car of the Year in Europe with its C3 Aircross model, an innovative small SUV, with a very urban approach due to its dimensions, but thanks to the Grip Control system it even allows to venture out of the asphalt without needing of 4×4 traction. The verdict of the jury will be known on Monday night, but in any case it is another car manufactured by PSA in Spain that is positioned at the top. A car by Figueruelas among the finalists.
