The eighth generation of the Audi A6 stands out for the incorporation of the rear wheels guidelines, which improve the agility of the vehicle in slow curves and provides greater stability in the fastest curves.
We have traveled to Ingoldstadt to take a closer look at the eighth generation of the Audi A6. There were many expectations and, in the absence of which we can prove, there are also many aspects in which we can see an obvious evolution compared to its predecessor.
Starting with its body, which has grown to 4,939 mm in length, 1,886 in width and 1,457 in height, is now more solid thanks to the larger size of the front grille (in which the radar sensors have not been hidden), the thickening of the rear wheel arches (in the style of an RS 6), the high waistline and the tires up to 21 inches.
As a result of the larger size, the habitability in the rear seats has grown a little at all levels. It has not increased, however, the trunk, which still offers 530 liters, but the loading mouth is wider and we can open the gate (aluminum, like the doors, bonnet and front suspension) with a movement of the foot under the bumper.
But, more than aesthetics and size, the new Audi has advanced in terms of dynamics and, above all, scanning. The first aspect we can not confirm until we drive, but it is logical that the incorporation of the rear wheels guidelines (rotate up to five degrees) greatly improve its agility in slow corners and its stability in the fastest.
In this sense, the reduction of the serial progressive steering (becomes more direct the more we rotate the steering wheel) promises a greater speed, while the revised suspensions ensure, according to those responsible for the brand, a greater degree of leakage of irregularities .
As for digitization, the star is the MMI touch response system and the configuration possibilities it offers. With a screen up to 10.1 inches (if we choose the optional version ‘Navigation plus’), it can be adapted to our tastes by dragging and dropping the icons, as we do in our phones, and create shortcuts with the functions we consider to be favorites.
Also in this more complete variant of the navigator, the MMI system has a self-learning function and makes new route suggestions taking into account the routes it has already known and the current traffic situation.
Under this huge screen, another secondary of 8.6 inches fulfills a double purpose: on the one hand it allows us to write with the finger the destiny to which we want to direct ourselves (we have understood that its ability to understand any type of calligraphy is quite high). And on the other hand, it allows the air conditioner to be operated, functioning haptically (with a small vibration) to create a sensation closer to that of the physical buttons.
Among the multiple options, the brand of the four rings has contemplated Audi parking pilot and Audi garage pilot systems that will allow us to get out of the car and perform the remote battery parking maneuver, something very useful in narrow spaces. What will not be from the marketing of the car, although a little later, is a service that will help us find parking if we want to leave the car on the street.
The engines are initially four, all with low hybridization technology. The only option of gasoline is a 3.0 TFSI V6 that delivers 340 hp and 500 Nm of torque. As for diesel, the simplest variant is the so-called A6 40 TDI, with four cylinders, 204 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The intermediate step (A6 45 TDI) already equips a V6 3.0 with 231 HP and 500 Nm, while the most powerful TDI is another 3.0, in this case with 286 HP and 620 Nm of torque.
The three V6 mechanics come with quattro all-wheel drive. Regarding the changes, the two diesel of greater capacity mount a 8-speed Tiptronic as standard, while gasoline and basic diesel come with a seven-speed S tronic box.
There will be three versions available when it reaches the market in the middle of the year: basic, Sport and Design, as well as two design packages called Design Selection and S Line Sport. When the marketing date approaches, its prices will be made public in Spain.
